A step back into history and a special place to visit...

The Old Cutter Inn, circa 1845, was originally a farmhouse. Around the beginning of this century, the farm was purchased by Elmer Darling, the original owner of the Burklyn Mansion of East Burke and the owner of the Fifth Avenue Hotel in New York City. The new owner added a large, sturdy three-story barn and a carriage house. Both are still standing today, and the carriage house has been converted into modern rooms that are now part of the inn's accommodations. The farm became a small country inn in 1969 and has undergone several restoration projects. Since 1977, the "Old Cutter", as it is affectionately called, has been owned and operated by Fritz and Marti Walther, innkeepers.

Staying at "the Old Cutter" is pure Vermont. The seasons are always changing and so is the weather! In Spring, the land around the Inn reawakens from "mud season" to glorious parrot-green hills and mountain wildflowers. In Summer, you can enjoy the heated, in-ground swimming pool, or try the nearby lakes, Willoughby or Crystal. Autumn brings a chill and, of course, the burst of fiery color that is Fall Foliage, usually in the last week of September. In Winter, the skiers arrive. A cross- country center and the Burke Mountain Alpine Ski resort are only a few minutes from the Inn, and nighttime offers sleigh rides under a sky studded with stars.
