February 4th weekend

Not much change in the sledding situation. Trails have very thin cover. There was a big thaw on Wednesday, accompanied by rain, then it froze up again. A few flurries in the forecast but no big snow fall expected.

Winter Advisory

A wintry mix spreads southwest to northeast this evening, with snow and sleet to start, then freezing rain and sleet, finally changing to rain.  Snow amounts will be light, but icing will create hazardous travel conditions, and may be heavy enough in places to cause power outages.

General Vermont Snowmobiling Conditions for Jan 26th, 2012

Trails are pretty scratchy at best. Many trails are bare. An ice storm is expected Thursday night and into Friday morning which will make driving hazardous. About 2-3 of snow is expected along with the sleet, freezing rain and just rain in southern VT. VAST Club reports

speak of bony trail conditions with exposed rocks, ice, bare sections of trail and marginal to no snow cover. There is a bit of a base left in most areas, especially in the woods so once more snow accumulations are received we will be back in business, but for now we must wait.

The only places left to ride right now are in the high elevation areas that utilize gravel roads. Even in these locations conditions can be considered early season at best.
